Making data work smarter

Hello! I'm Matthew Austin, a data driven finance and analytics professional with a Master’s and Bachelor’s in Accounting from Michigan State University. With experience across Big Four assurance, financial operations, and advanced analytics, I’ve spent my career blending financial expertise with a passion for data. I work in Python, SQL, Alteryx, Power BI and Tableau, and increasingly in agentic automation. My focus is on uncovering insights, streamlining workflows and turning complex data into clear and actionable narratives.

Throughout my career, I have focused on understanding and explaining the “why” behind financial shifts. Week to week that means budget-to-actual variance analysis across a multi-product hardware portfolio, the revenue and margin models underneath it, and presenting the forecast drivers to senior management, while also finding creative ways to improve the process through automation and visualization. I’ve led initiatives that save hours of repetitive manual work, developed dynamic dashboards used across teams, and helped maintain accurate financial profiles within existing project portfolios. Lately that work has moved toward agentic systems that don’t just report a variance, but go and investigate it.

Across industries and roles, my work has consistently focused on improving clarity, efficiency, and decision making. From building revenue models and designing dashboards to creating automated processes from scratch, I enjoy connecting the dots between data and results. The same approach applies when cleaning messy datasets, automating recurring reports, or supporting teams with custom analytics; the goal is always clear, efficient systems that make decisions easier and operations smoother.
